TRAINING

While public service events, meetings, and drills are all great ways to improve our knowledge and readiness, being able to work with our served agencies using terms and forms they are familiar with goes a long way towards advancing our standing as professionals. Below are recommended courses for all members to complete.

ICS Courses

Some of the courses listed below, which are generally self-study, are offered as classroom modules by Bucks County Community College. If enough members are interested in meeting together for a class, but the college's schedule doesn't work, let the Emergency Coordinator know so we can schedule our own class.

IS-100.b Introduction to Incident Command
IS-700.a Introduction to NIMS
IS-200.b ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents
IS-800.b Introduction to National Response Framework
IS-300 and IS-400 are only available as classroom modules. SEPA Regional Task Force offers these courses every couple months. If interested, please send an email via the listserver, and details will be provided.
IS-5 Introduction to Hazardous Materials (request from PEMA for auxiliary communicators)

FEMA Independent Study Program

FEMA Course Catalog

The Emergency Management Institute (EMI) offers more than fifty independent study courses. These are self-paced courses designed for people who have emergency management responsibilities and the general public. For most of our courses you will need to download and print the materials. Others are interactive courses that you can take directly over the internet on the NETC Virtual Campus. All are offered free-of-charge to those who qualify for enrollment. Each Independent Study Course includes lessons with practice exercises and a final examination. Students who score 75 percent or better are issued a certificate of achievement from EMI.
